DARK TRANQUILITY LIVE AT THE CAPITOL THEATRE MARCH 25 2014
DARK TRANQUILITY CAPITOL THEATRE, PERTH MARCH 25 2014 |

It's been a few years since Dark Tranquillity hit our shores and in that time a few albums have been put out and the band have undergone some personal experiences which judging by Tuesday night's performance, has made the band even stronger than before. The presence and vibe on stage was all smiles and the energy flowed into the crowd which made the night a pretty good one. |

Opening up right before Dark Tranquillity was Melbourne based melodic metallers Orpheus Omega who put on a really solid performance and by the end of their set, had won the crowd over. Their first trip over to the West certaintly put an impression on a lot of people's minds and hopefully they can make the trek over here again someday.
Not long after their set, the Swedish quartet (who is missing a yet to be replaced bass player, instead relying on pre-recorded bass tracks) hit the stage and opened up with the 2nd track "The Science Of Noise" off their latest album "Construct", a slightly softer but still heavy track compared to a lot of their other stuff. The small but ethusiastic crowd got into it almost immeditately but it wasn't until the next song "White Noise/Black Silence" that we saw some movement in the moshpit which kept up for most of the night. |
|
The band sounded tight and like a unit, singer Mikael Stanne who looked extremely happy to be on stage singing for the crowd, enjoying every moment and getting the crowd riled up on each song. The band proceeded to drag out more of their back catalogue, balancing a few tracks from most of their albums and a few from "Construct" which is a more mellower album but also darker in some ways. The sound was fairly clear which is not too common in Capitol's usual muddy sound which really helped in the band's performance. Overall it was certaintly a good, solid show despite the disappointing turnout which was a little surprising considering the longevity and reputation of Dark Tranquillity. Let's hope they do comeback to a more fitting sized crowd next time. |
